I have a rule that if i see something in a store and I can't make up my mind if I should by it or not, I don't need it! If you have to think about it pass it up, saves time and money. (SNS)
______
Collect grocery ads from area stores & circle the best buys. Make a list with price & store names, then shop at one store that price matches (Walmart Super Center does). Use coupons on top of that! (Amy C)
______
Recently I started saving all bottle slips. When you return your bottles and get the slip-skip using it towards your groceries that day. Put them in a jar and watch them pile up. When you need extra cash or want to cash in on the savings, bring them to customer service for your $$$$ (Peppersimusa)
______
When flat sheets are on sale I purchase a wide variety of colors and patterns and use them to make a variety of items. I make skirts, curtains, Christmas stockings, pillows, body pillow covers, etc. It is so much cheaper compared to poly cotton material you purchase by the yard. I even open up all the hemmed areas and that gives you a bit more material. (Carol K)
______
I just recently got married and spent $80 on my flowers. How? I used silk flowers and made the arrangements myself. Now I have my bouquet, and I didn't have to pay more money to get it set. (Jennifer)
______
Let your kids clip newspaper coupons of grocery items you buy regularly. Each time you shop let the kids keep the savings. Then they can use the money to pay for their own movies, ice cream etc.. (that's how you save) Kids actually get excited about grocery shopping and get a math lesson too! (Alina C)
______
When you find a really good deal on a clothing item for a child, buy 2 of them. One the size that you need and the other one size up for when they grow out of one.
______
Buy a gallon size of bubble bath, any scent that you like. I have found them for under $2 at discount stores. Use it in place of: 1. Liquid hand soap 2. Shampoo (hair, nails and skin are all made of the same stuff, you know!) 3. For washing delicates by hand 4. Mix with a little water and glycerin for blowing bubbles 5. Washing your pets 6. Body wash 7. Washing the car 8. Dishwashing liquid & 9. Bubble Baths (Surprise!) Hope my tip inspires you to try it. Our family has no allergies, but I would be careful if you have super-sensitive skin. (Diana)
______
Before you head off to the grocery store, make a menu for that week. Family members can offer ideas for meals they want. Take inventory and make your list. Not only will it save you from buying groceries you don't need, but you'll save time trying to decide what to have for dinner each night. (Sheri)
______
Clip coupons for items that you usually buy. Think of the time that you spend clipping the coupons as being paid for your work. Try to buy in bulk whenever possible, and comparison shop especially on expensive items.
______
Be sure to check your receipts for accuracy before you leave the store. Make sure you received the sale price or immediate refund you are supposed to receive.
______
Make a "want" list of things and place it in your wallet. You may see a great deal while you are shopping, or you'll have it handy when someone asks what you want for your birthday.
______
Instead of buying expensive department store make-up, buy from the drug stores, they usually have the same ingredients. It is the name you are paying for.
______
Buy clothes at a thrift shop or consignment store. They usually only except good quality items. End of season or sale items are good buys also.
______
Cheaper is not always better. Quality is better so you don't find yourself buying a new "something" sooner.
______
Don't buy anything on impulse. Think hard on whether you really need the item before you buy it. Or even if you have the room for it.
______
Buy the generic version of medicines. They have the same ingredients, in most cases- just not the expensive name. Go ahead and check the ingredients.
______
Instead of buying an expensive computer program to prevent the Y2K bug to your P.C., all you have to do is change the date of your computer to the year 2,000 and then reboot and check all of your programs to make sure they run properly. If there is a problem buy the program ahead of time and fix it before everyone rushes out to get the same program. (BrianB.)
