Urban rain-barrel! Collect air conditioning runoff for watering your plants! The water is practically mineral-free (no salt buildup) and you save money. (Note: filter and sterlize water before putting to any other use.)
[May not be usable in areas with air polution problems.] (Shir'el)

______
Sap from trees can be removed by rubbing your hands with butter or margarine. Wipe off with a cloth after a few minutes. (Mary)

______
To kill poison ivy, use salt mixed in water. Never burn poison ivy, the poison can float in the air and get into your eyes and on your skin. Poison ivy also stays on tools that you use. I just place the water with salt dissolved in a spray bottle and spray on the poison ivy. (Wendy)

______
An inexpensive and very effective way to prevent grass and weeds from growing in your beds is to uniformly lay down sheets of newspapers in thicknesses of about 1/4" thick, being sure to overlap them. Wet the newspapers with water to hold them down, and cover them with a layer of mulch. I have used this several times in my yard over the past four years and found it to be an excellent alternative to the black plastic. (Laurie Zimmerman)

______
Cover the drain holes in flowerpots with old dryer sheets to prevent the dirt from coming out of the holes. (Holly)

______
Trying to kill the grass or weeds between the sidewalk or the driveway? Try using some vinegar, or salt water. Be sure to keep it away from the areas where you want to keep the plants alive. (Michael)

______
TREES: Line the hole with baking potatoes before planting the tree. The potatoes hold moisture and will provide wonderful nutrients as they decay. (Anon)

______
Always put away your hose, as it will cause parts of the lawn to die. (Gail)

______
Save coffee grounds and eggshells (crushed) for your roses, they apparently thrive on these. (Julie B.)

______
To keep the blooms colored on Hydrangeas, place old rusty razor blades, or nails buried in the ground around the plant. (Julie B.)

______
To keep your young trees from being overrun from weeds, clear the surrounding area and place weed- preventing mesh down and cover with rocks that have edging to keep them in.

______
When pruning thorny bushes, hold branches back with barbecue tongs.

______
Plants in clay pots require more water than those in plastic pots. Also the plants in clay pots can "breathe" easier.

______
Cut back on weeds by lining the area around the plants with black sheet plastic. Then cover it with mulch.

______
Protect your shrubs from hungry deer. Suspend netting with Ivory soap from the shrub's branches.

______
The water from hard boiled eggs can be used to water plants as it is full of nutrients.

______
Don't water the grass after the sun goes down. Grass retains the moisture and provides a breeding ground for mold and fungus.
