  Clothing Tip : Laundry

Instead of letting my clean laundry get to the couch - or worse, my bed - I have a separate tub for each member of the family. When the dryer stops, I fold clothes directly into each person's tub, and they go straight upstairs to the right room. Even my almost-3-year-old can take his tub up and put away his clothes (not very neatly, but still)... We have a couch we can SIT on again! (Glenys)

______
Washing clothes-Using liquid detergent(especially the brands that say concentrated). Use only an 1/8 of the cup size. The liquid is very highly concentrated and a 1/8 cup will clean the clothes as effectively as a whole cup. Put just a small sample on your hands and see hoe long it takes to to rinse off the soap. You will see what I mean. (David M)

______
I use a kit called Custom Cleaner Home Dry Cleaning Kit.
Cleans 12 garments. It's usually about 7 dollars. But always there are coupons for a $1 off. The dry cleaning kit is easy. It has towlettes with a solution on them. You treat spots and then throw it it a plastic bag (that comes with the kit) and put in the dryer on delicates for 10-20 minutes. Depending on the dirtiness. Everything comes out quite nice! I have done coats even! But that doesn't always take care of the ironing. So, my mother in law told me you can iron dry cleaning by putting the iron on low and then a clean white towel under the garment and between the iron and the garment. (Barb)

______
Smelly washing machine: About every 6 months, poor a gallon of bleach in and run it through the complete full load cycle. Some people use a cup of bleach once a month. Also a gallon of vinegar can work. It's supposed to be good for the machine and your drains. (Joyce & Lisa)

______
I do laundry for 5 people and whites are my least favorite load. I give each person a net laundry bag for their socks. They put their socks into the bag immediately when they take them off of their feet. When I pull them out of the dryer they can be given directly to the person they belong to. Even my 4 year old puts away his own socks! And I no longer have to spend time sorting who's is who's. (Shannon D.)

______
To unshrink woolens: dissolve 1 ounce of borax in 1 teaspoon of hot water and add to 1 gallon of warm water. Immerse garment, pull gently into shape and then rinse in 1 gallon of warm water to which 2 tablespoons of vinegar have been added. (gary)

______
Take a sponge and cut it up into squares and drop in a container of liquid fabric softener. When placing clothes in dryer squeeze out one of the sponges and add the sponge to the clothes. This will save you money on buying dryer sheets. (folkesta)

______

If you have hard water at your house, instead of spending lots of money on a water softener, buy a bag of water softener salt and throw 3 or 4 rocks into the washing machine with your laundry. Your water will be soft and your clothes will be cleaner. (Stephanie)

______

To keep clothes in the drawers or blankets smelling fresh, store with an unwrapped bar soap.
