Tip for Bug Bites and Bee Stings

When I was a little girl in Jamaica we didn't have many of the drugs and ointments that you have in the states. In other words, we had to improvise. Whenever we were bitten by a gnat, sand flea or even a bee sting my mother would put toothpaste on the sting. Instantly the itching or pain would stop! Most likely it's the baking soda in the toothpaste, but I thought this might be a good idea for campers and those who don't have Benadryl handy.
